Six great tee sites

2 December 2008 - Written by Duncan Blair - Fashion

Those who know me know that I am a little obsessed with t-shirts. People are often asking me where I got the tee that I am wearing from, so I am going to let you all in on a few of my favourite online tee stores/resources (just in time for Christmas).

The following are (in no particular order) a few of my favourite sites for tracking down the latest and greatest in tees.

Threadless

threadless tee - put the needle on the record

An oldy, but a goody. Threadless is a great Internet shopping and community success story. Anyone can submit a t-shirt design, the community votes on how much they like the designs, and the best ones get printed. This has proven so popular they have expanded their lines to include wall decorations and art prints among other things. I haven't been a huge fan of their designs lately - the community has become obsessed with vector art jokes - but I still own at least 8 Threadless tees. Gone are the days you can walk down the street here in little old NZ and be the only one rocking a Threadless tee though, the secret is out!

Threadless also catapulted New Zealand graphic desinger Glenn Jones (aka Glennz) into stardom. He is one of the most successful Threadless designers ever, having had 21 of his designs printed. He was so successful that he has now started his own tee site: Glennz Tees.

P.S. Right now Threadless also have a huge sale on, with tees starting at just US$5.

Design By Humans

Design By Humans is a newer community driven tee site that clearly learned a few lessons from Threadless. I have been buying a lot of designs from here lately, they are doing some really great stuff. The only gripe I have is that I wish they would print their designs on better quality t-shirts... My favourites are falling apart far too quickly.

Johnny Cupcakes

Johnny Cupcakes is a guy that has a great story (if you have the time to read it). Even if you don't have time to read it, check out his tee designs - they are awesome. All his tees have cooking and baking influences, sometimes subtle, sometimes not. A little bit more pricey than the other sites I have mentioned, but the tees are great quality (and come with a cool little surprise in every package).

Tcritic

Tcritic is a great tee blog run by a guy called Karl Long. Featuring designs from all over the web it is one of the blogs that is always in my RSS reader. Tcritic is often the place that I will discover new tee shops, and is also a great place to hear about sales. He also has his own shop, although the selection is pretty limited right now.

Rumplo

Rumplo is a massive tee community. People are able to submit tees from all over the web, and then the rest of the community can browse them, leave comments, and save their favourites. You can browse thousands of tees by colour, popularity, and 'newness'. Rumplo is another great place to discover new tee sites and designers.

designgive

designgive is a tee site that supports a number of different charities. A portion of the proceeds from each tee purchased goes to the charity of the purchasers choice. The great thing is that the designs are also fantastic, so you can look great while feeling great too.
